Getting started

Get TED ready for Pool Duty.

Three steps, about 10 minutes, and no electrician. Get TED online, tell it about your pool, and give it a starting point for your power prices.

  • Home wifi2.4 GHz, reaching your pool equipment
  • About 10 minutesNear your router to start
  • A power billHandy, but not essential

1 Step one

Get TED online.

Pair TED near your router, where the signal is strongest. Once the app says TED Connected, take it out to the pool equipment.

  1. Open the TED appRegister your account, then tap the TED Smartplug in the top‑right banner.
  2. Connect near the routerFollow the prompts. Allow up to two minutes for the connection to finish.
  3. Look for TED ConnectedThat’s your cue to move TED out to the pool equipment.

Not connecting? Pairing steps and weak‑signal help
  1. Start pairing in the app. Tap the TED Smartplug in the top‑right banner, then Click to Connect TED. Enter your home wifi name and password.
  2. Put TED in pairing mode. Hold the button on top of TED for five seconds. A slow, breathing flash means it’s ready. If it flashes quickly, hold for another five seconds until it slows.
  3. Join TED’s network. When prompted, connect your phone to the network named SL‑TED, followed by a few characters. Then return to the app and confirm your home wifi details.

Connects near the router but not at the pool? The signal out there is probably weak. Moving the router closer, or adding a range extender or mesh point, usually sorts it.

If wifi drops out later, TED keeps running its last saved schedule and reconnects when it can.

Step one, at the pool

Plug your equipment into TED.

TED goes into the power point your pool equipment already uses. How you connect depends on whether you have a chlorinator.

With a chlorinator

Plug the chlorinator into TED, then set its own timer to manual or always on, so you can manage the schedule through TED.

Without a chlorinator

Plug the pump into TED, then remove the old pool timer or leave it set to always on, so the two schedules don’t clash.

Equipment out in the weather? TED is made for indoor use, so fit a weatherproof plug enclosure and follow its instructions.

2 Step two

Tell TED about your pool.

Your pool profile is what makes every treatment amount and suggestion fit your pool. You set it up once, and each detail has a job.

Pool volume
Sets how much TED tells you to add. Not sure of yours? Work it out here
Pump and treatment
Your pump, and whether the pool is salt, mineral or chlorine.
How busy the pool gets
How much swimming it sees, and how many leaves and debris end up in it. It’s not a test result, just your best guess.
Cover and heating
Both change what the pool needs.
Your address
So TED AI can keep an eye on the weather at your pool.
